Residents may safely dispose of sensitive records and papers at the City of Mansfield’s “Shred Away Day” event, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Environmental Collection Center, 616 S. Wisteria St.
The shredding is done on site by a large commercial shredder, said Howard Redfearn, environmental services manager for the city.
“Identity theft continues to be a problem and a major concern for people,” he said. “Shredding is an important tool in the fight against identity theft. It’s also environmentally friendly since shredded paper can be recycled.”
The service is offered free of charge to Mansfield residents, who are asked to observe the following rules:
- Proof of residency is required (driver’s license or current water bill).
- Participants are limited to five bags or boxes of paper.
- Individuals only, please; no businesses.
- Bring only large bags or boxes of documents; a personal shredder is recommended for smaller amounts.
