The Mansfield Public Library has partners for the 2016 Summer Reading Club. This year they are joining Arlington and Kennedale to promote the annual program with the theme “On Your Mark, Get Set…Read!”
This year’s program kicks off June 4 and runs until July 30. And there are few changes to the reading club program this year.
“We have a full calendar of events for this year’s summer reading club,” said Youth Services Librarian Yolanda Botello. “There are programs for all ages and this year we’ve put together an easy chart for families to find the programs that fit their age groups. And this year a lot of activity will be happening online.”
This year there are no reading logs. Readers will be tracking their time on the special website, MySRC.org and librarians will be on hand at the kickoff to help you navigate the site and register. All activities and books read must be tracked in MySRC.org. The kickoff is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the library, 104 S. Wisteria St.
Also different this year is the recognition for readers. In previous years a small prize was given out anytime a log was turned in. This year Children, Teens and Adults need to read five hours to receive a prize package. Babies need to read 10 books and complete six activities. Children, teen and adults will be put into a drawing for any additional five hours they read. Babies will be put into a drawing for any additional 10 books and six activities they complete.
Some programs require registration so please check the complete calendar of Summer Reading Club events available on the library homepage of the city website, www.mansfieldtexas.gov/library. Registration is now open online for those programs and events.
The Summer Reading Club party is set for Friday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Katherine Rose Memorial Park, 303 N. Walnut Creek Drive.
