The Texas Workforce Commission has named Mansfield-based Klein Tools as Texas’ Small Employer of the Year at their annual conference held Dec. 7-9 in Houston.
Klein was nominated by Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County and was selected from a field that included 22 small, private-sector employers in Texas. All nominees were recognized for their contributions to their community’s workforce through innovation and partnership with their local Texas Workforce Solutions offices.
The leading manufacturer of hand tools, Klein located its advanced technology center in Mansfield in 2011 and has expanded its facility twice since its relocation from the Chicago area. They currently employ more than 400 people at their Mansfield campus.
Klein was recognized for its work not only with Texas Workforce Solutions but with the city’s economic development department and the Mansfield Independent School District. The collaboration developed the Mansfield Manufacturing Partnership, a program to train high school students in specific manufacturing skills. The program also included internships with Klein.
“This program has had a significant impact on all parties involved,” said Scott Welmaker, director of economic development for the city. “Klein is ensuring a skilled workforce is available for its industry and young workers in our community are receiving training that will provide jobs for them in the future.”
“It is an honor to receive the Small Employer of the Year award from the Texas Workforce Commissions,” said Klein Tools Director Michael Klein. “We have worked closely with Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County and are excited to continue our participation in the Mansfield Manufacturing Partnership training program, that develops skilled manufacturing employees.”
