This year Mansfield Water Utilities, Mansfield Environmental Services and Keep Mansfield Beautiful have teamed up to bring you the first-ever Earth Day Mansfield community celebration.

The event will be at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Chris W. Burkett Service Center, 620 S. Wisteria St. Earth Day Mansfield is a fun, family-friendly festival designed to remind us that being great stewards can also be a lot of fun.  Did we mention this event is free? If those aren’t good enough reasons to be there, we’ve got a few more for you.

1. Kids Zone Spectacular.

There will be plenty of fun and learning opportunities for kids at Earth Day Mansfield.

There will be plenty of fun and learning opportunities for kids at Earth Day Mansfield.

Keep Mansfield Beautiful has put together a kids zone that even the parents will be trying to get into. Get those kids out from behind the screen and get them face to face with some farm animals at the petting zoo and pony rides. Get your cardio on at the bounce house. And you might even learn a little something in this kid friendly corner.

2. Got fish?

The kids' Fishing Derby is catch and release but still a lot of fun.

The kids’ Fishing Derby is catch and release but still a lot of fun.

We do! Participate in the Kids’ Fishing Derby from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. We have plenty of catfish in the pond waiting to see if these future anglers have what it takes. While the event is catch and release, if you know you child would like to keep the fish, please come prepared with your own cooler and supplies. After the derby is over the pond will remain open to anyone that wants to fish. Fish are allowed to be taken home.

3. Still not convinced! Excuse me? No, exSKEW YOU.

There will be plenty of food vendors on hand so no need to go hungry.

4. “But I only go to music festivals.” Ha! We’ve got you covered.

Water is a clear, tasteless liquid that some daresay is boring. WE disagree and we want to show you why at our Water 360 demo area. Water 360 is the city’s education program for Water Utilities and Environmental Services. Come see what’s happening behind the scenes and beneath the ground every single day to ensure safe, clean drinking water reaches your tap and wastewater safely leaves your home to be treated.

7. Show Keep Mansfield Beautiful some love.

The volunteers from Keep Mansfield Beautiful will be highlighting several community projects, including rain barrels.

Keep Mansfield Beautiful’s strategic plan is all about loving your city. Come show your city some love by supporting the local food, local band and local vendors coming together to celebrate the idea that every day is Earth Day. You can even bid on a rain barrel painted by some of Mansfield’s own.
