Staying home for the holidays? Thursday is for football and turkey naps, but the rest of the week doesn’t have to be spent in front of screens. Mansfield Parks & Recreation has a number of fun family activities to keep the kids busy, parents active and everyone thankful for this time together.
Saturday, Nov. 17
8 & 9AM: Bark & Rec Hike
Hit the trails at Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park with dogs from the Mansfield Animal Care & Control shelter. You’ll be thankful for the exercise and the dogs will be even more thankful for the break from the shelter and chance to stretch out and check out the new sights & smells at the nature park.
Guests must be 14+ to walk a dog alone but kids are welcome to accompany parents and share leash duties for no extra charge.
10AM: Trivia Hike
It’s National Take A Hike Day. So get to know Oliver Nature Park through fun, funny and unique bits of trivia as you hike the park with one of our trained naturalists. Great for the whole family. Guests age 2+ must preregister.
Monday, Nov. 19
9:30AM-11:30AM: Soccer Shots Camp
Kids ages 4-8 will love learning the basics of soccer or advancing their skills in this camp held Monday-Wednesday at Hardy Allmon Soccer Complex.
10AM: Junior Geologists Class
Learn all about the rocks and fossils beneath our feet with an interactive class at Oliver Nature Park that includes a mini hike and hands-on experiments. Classes are divided into age-appropriate depth of discussion. They’ll have too much fun to realize how much they learn!
1:30PM: Texas Predator Hike
Learn about the wonders of nature from the eyes of the predators lurking in the woods and weeds all around us. Our trained naturalists will guide guests ages 2 and up through the park and discuss the wildlife that makes its home in Texas and especially right in Oliver Nature Park.

10-11AM: Nature Play
Let little ones play and explore in this unique outdoor program. No registration or cost to participate, just come to Oliver Nature Park and play with our tents, rocks, logs and other natural elements. Who needs plastic toys when nature and their imagination can be so fun!
6PM: Family Dodgeball Night
Burn off some pre-feast calories with a fun, family night at the Mansfield Activities Center. No skills are required for dodgeball, just quick reflexes and a little competitive spirit! All equipment is provided, open to ages 8 and up.
