DO get ready for Rockin’ 4th fun…DON’T make these mistakes

Mansfield Rocks! Celebrate America with us at Mansfield’s Rockin’ 4th of July festival on July 3, at Big League Dreams Mansfield Sportspark. The entire family is welcome for our 12th annual celebration. You might want to keep in mind a few important do’s and don’ts before you head out.

DO plan on coming early to enjoy all the fun

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the fields will be full of family-friendly activities. All games are rides are completely free, including bounce houses, rock climbing wall, home run derby and more. Activities are all geared for children and families to enjoy together; guests age 18 and under should not be at the event without a parent or guardian present.

DON’T worry about bringing money to get in

Parking, shuttles and admission to Rockin 4th of July are all completely free and provided by the City of Mansfield, the Mansfield Parks & Recreation Department and our generous sponsors. There will be food and drink vendors on site should you need a snack; bring cash or card to enjoy those treats.

DO pay attention to parking and shuttle information

All parking for guests is at Vernon Newsom Stadium, 3700 E. Broad St. Free charter buses will begin running from the stadium to the ballpark at 6:30 p.m.. With more than 25 buses running continuously throughout the night, it shouldn’t take long to get everyone to the fun quickly. After the fireworks show, guests will be directed to follow the large electronic signs to exit the facility. Shuttle buses pause immediately before and during the fireworks per Fire Marshall safety guidelines but will begin running again at 10 p.m. Mansfield Police have gotten the exit process down to a science, getting the entire crowd of 15k+ out in less than an hour. So just please be patient with your family, our staff and your neighbors and everyone will have a peaceful, prompt exit.

There is handicap parking available at Big League Dreams for those guests with an official tag or license plate. These spaces are limited so please arrive early in the evening, and please do not use the spaces unless absolutely necessary for your party in order to save the spaces for those who truly need it.

Please do NOT park in the neighborhoods surrounding Big League Dreams or on the shoulder of nearby roads. These are private streets for residents only and we do not want to impede their access to their own homes.

DO watch traffic signs as you enter and exit

There will be some street closures, lane changes and/or directional adjustments in order to get traffic in and out of the event smoothly. Please pay attention to signs and respect officers directions.

NOTE: A section of Lone Star Drive will be closed between the 360 Tollway and Britton Road due to firework fallout. Watch for signs and do NOT drive around any barricades for your own safety.

DO bring all the essentials to have a great time

Lawn chairs and/or blankets
Sunscreen
Cash/cards for food & drink vendors
Camera/phone to take lots of photos

DON’T bring forbidden items and risk getting removed or barred from entering

Unauthorized items includes:
Coolers or any outside food/drinks (with the exception of baby food/bottles)
Pets
Personal fireworks
Illegal drugs/weapons

DO remember we are all here to have a safe, family-friendly night together

All other facility guidelines are in effect, and all city and state laws will be strictly enforced by on-site police to protect the safety of guests. There will be a heavy police presence to help control crowds, monitor activity and keep everyone safe. Please respect our officers and behave accordingly.

All official event volunteers will be wearing bright safety vests for easy identification. They can answer questions and assist you with most issues or direct you to the proper officials.

In the event of an emergency, MPD has specific plans in place. Follow the instructions of the closest officer or volunteer for a calm, peaceful resolution.

DO make note of the schedule and communications options

All games and activities will shut down at 9 p.m. for guests to find their seats and prepare for the fireworks show. At approximately 9:15 p.m, city leaders will lead the crowd in the pledge, anthem and welcome address. Fireworks are expected to begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. so some stadium lights will go out a few minutes before in order to give everyone optimal viewing. PLEASE be sure you have all members of your group (especially little ones) seated with you before the lights go out.

In the event of a weather-related delay, updates will be relayed via event volunteers (in the vests), posted on the Parks & Recreation Facebook page and broadcast on the official radio station 89.1 FM. Please check all options or ask a volunteer if you have any questions. We hope to have everything running smoothly and on schedule this year, but safety will always be our number one priority. We  will defer any decisions to the Fire Marshall. We recommend you follow the Facebook page before the event begins so you can pull it up quickly if needed.

The AM station is accessible via a portable radio or with an app like https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/best-radio-apps/. If no emergency alerts are needed, it will broadcast a musical soundtrack timed to accompany our fireworks show.

DO get ready for an AMAZING fireworks show

This year’s fireworks show is sure to amaze, with 2,500 pounds of explosives going into the Mansfield sky at approximately 9:30 p.m. and lasting 22 minutes. PLEASE NOTE: Our fireworks show always ends with a large boom and pyrotechnic explosion (see here for a clip of last year’s event). This is PART OF THE SHOW and not a cause for concern. We are proud to offer an explosively mind-blowing show for our residents but do not want anyone to be alarmed. If you have small children who may be sensitive to the noises, we recommend headphones to soften the sound.

DO exit calmly to get everyone out fast & easy

Remember to wait for the lights to come back up after the fireworks show is complete to pack up. Then follow signs and officers/volunteers so everyone can enjoy a safe and orderly exit. Exit lines are split in half to move more quickly but both lines go to the stadium where all cars are parked.

DO invite your friends, have a great time and share the fun

Click here for the Facebook event page, where you can mark yourself as attending and invite friends to join in. You are also invited to share your photos and videos from the day in the event page so everyone can share your fun, or post on your own page and tag @MansfieldTxParks.
